I can certainly see why this would be a useful feature.

You might be able to do it if you were to make a bitwise image of the failing hard drive and connect that to a virtual machine as a slave drive. Doing that might prove to be as much work as connecting the failing drive directly to the IDE bus though.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10140419541264972382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4482521283458453577.post-51363749607118228662009-11-02T09:15:32.807-08:002009-11-02T09:15:32.807-08:00Echoing what Smallfry posted, do you know of any w...Echoing what Smallfry posted, do you know of any way to access the encrypted data on a drive which has been removed from a bad machine and connected to a working machine via an USB adapter?

Much easier connecting drives this way than opening up the machine and connecting tjem through the IDE or SATA internal interfaces.Kris Erwinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11527861410793978005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4482521283458453577.post-58665471468036520032009-07-15T19:13:53.362-07:002009-07-15T19:13:53.362-07:00In the article, you mentioned that the slave drive...In the article, you mentioned that the slave drive has to be slave IDE.

Does this method also work for Pointsec encrypted drives connect via USB?Smallfrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4482521283458453577.post-22490354694094570592009-03-17T21:49:00.000-07:002009-03-17T21:49:00.000-07:00Thank you, Black Fist. Also, thank you for your gre...Thank you, Black Fist.
Also, thank you for your great website!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4482521283458453577.post-17798261227656462502009-03-17T19:15:00.000-07:002009-03-17T19:15:00.000-07:00@anonymousI've never had to resort to using this t...@anonymous
I've never had to resort to using this trick to get at my data. I've only ever done it in a testing environment that I've set up. After that happens, it seems like the HDD is in worse condition... (e.g. decryption stops with PSMain error) So, I'm afraid to use this method now. Did this ever happen to you?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
